The Secret, authored by Rhonda Byrne, is a best-selling book which has sold more than six million copies. It has also been made into a popular movie which has been seen by millions of people around the world.
Many people in this world have a scarcity mentality. They believe that there is a shortage of everything so people need to work hard to get what they want and then horde what they have from those who would take it away. This scarcity mentality creates covetousness, resentment, bitterness, and strife—even war. The truth is that there is abundance in the universe!
Byrne quoted Michael Bernard Beckwith who stated, “There is a lie that acts like a virus within the mind of humanity. And that lie is, ‘There’s not enough good to go around. There’s a lack and there’s limitation and there’s just not enough.’ And that lie has people living in fear, greed, stinginess. And those thoughts of fear, greed, stinginess, and lack become their experience. So the world has taken a nightmare pill.”
Many religious people seem to believe that this concept of “lack” applies to God. Thus, in their thinking, God lacks enough love, grace, mercy, wisdom, and/or power to save everyone. In Christianity, Calvinists believe that only “the elect” will be saved because only “the elect” can be saved since God has chosen not to elect the vast majority of the human race for salvation. Most Christians believe that God would like for everyone to be saved but only a few will be saved since God either lacks the will, the power, or something to save everyone. It, however, cannot be lack of will because the Bible says that it is not God’s will that any perish but that all come to repentance (II Pet. 3:9). Lack of salvation cannot be to lack of power because God has all power and authority in the universe (Mt. 28:19, 20). It cannot be due to lack of love for God is love (I John 4:8) and God so loved that He gave His only begotten Son to be the Savior of the world (John 3:16). It cannot be due to lack of grace for the Bible says that we are saved by grace, not good works (Eph. 2:8, 9). It cannot be due to lack of mercy because the Bible says that His mercy endures forever (Ps. 136). If everyone is not saved it cannot be to lack of wisdom because God is omniscient.
Since God is all wise and knows everything, God certainly has the wisdom and knowledge to know how to devise a workable plan of salvation to save everyone without violating anyone’s free will. And that is exactly what God has done. Many Christians say that we cannot be sure of how many will be saved because the Bible is not clear on this subject. They also say that all we can do is confess our sins, accept Christ, live the best we can, and wait for the final judgment to find out for sure who makes it into heaven and who will be cast into eternal hell fire. In essence, it is a secret as to the final outcome of God’s endeavor, in Christ, to destroy the works of the Devil and to reconcile the universe to Himself.
It is no secret that the final outcome of God’s perfect, all-inclusive plan of salvation will be Christ drawing all to himself (John 12:32). It is no secret that all will live in Christ (I Cor. 15:22). It is no secret that God will become all in all—everything to everyone (I Cor. 15:28 RSV). It is no secret that there will be universal confession of faith (Phil. 2:9-11). It is no secret that there will be universal worship which is eternal (Rev. 5:13).
For the good shepherd, 99 saved sheep were not enough. He did not stop searching until he found his one lost sheep (Luke 15). The Bible says that Jesus is both the Good Shepherd and the Great Shepherd (John 10:14; Heb. 13:20). It is asinine to believe that the Great Shepherd will settle for anything less than the salvation of 100% of the “sheep” of the world being saved! What is even more asinine is the contention of many Christians that if Christ gets relatively few people saved, he died for something but if he ultimately gets everyone saved, without violating anyone’s free will, he died for nothing. There is truly an abundance of salvation in the universe which includes all and excludes none!
